*1906--there do not seem to be any papers available for this year.

If you cannot come to the library, the Reference staff accepts requests. Mail requests with the pertinent information (name, month/day/year of death) to Reference Department, Greenwood County Library, 600 S. Main Street, Greenwood, SC 29646. Photocopies are $1.00 per obituary/page. Make checks/money orders payable to the Library. Allow 2-3 weeks for processing. Contact the Reference Department by phone (864)941-4650, or email ReferenceDesk@greenwoodcountylibrary.org, for more information.

If you do not have a complete death date (month/day/year), we have to search the microfilm day by day until we find the information. Our research charge is $25.00 per hour plus $1 per page photocopied--allow additional time for research requests. We suggest you consult the SC Death Index (http://www.scdhec.net/administration/vr/vrdi.htm) for deaths that occurred between 1915-1962. For 1963-present, please consult the SC DHEC Division of Vital Records http://www.scdhec.net/administration/vr/index.htm website for information on how to obtain death certificates.

Many thanks to our staff members--Gail Hinton, Doug Lefler, Elsie Livingston, Pam Morgan, Bobby Slabaugh, Susan Smith, John Robert Young, Julie Horton, Jeannine Hinkel, and Yvonne Hudgens--and our community volunteers Chandra Christian, Linwood Hollingsworth, and Cathie Swindell for their assistance in abstracting and transcribing these files!

This is a work-in-progress! If you live in this area and are interested in assisting us with this valuable project, please contact the Reference Coordinator for more information at 941-4650, or email ReferenceDesk@greenwoodcountylibrary.org.
